Hoosier High Schoolers Win National Broadcasting Title
Pendleton Heights High School’s radio station took home the Best High School Station honors in the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System conference in New York City.
Individual award winners included:
- Best Newscast: Heidi Przytulski
- Best Air Personality: Torin Messer
- Best Station Promo: Torin Messer
- Best Event Promo: Torin Messer
- Best Promotional/Contest Event: Kaitlyn Hale, Heidi Przytulski, and Logan Skillman
Awards are for broadcasts and events that occurred in 2015. Finalists were announced in December.
To win the prestegious award for high school station of the year, WEEM entered by including an hour-long audio air check that showed the range and style of its broadcasters. It also included student essays, photos of events and staff, recommendation letters, and more.
Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) is a trusted and experienced resource for over 75 years for information, action and help with college radio, TV, webcasting, podcasting, streaming, and high school radio. The 76th annual national IBS conference was held March 4-6 at Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City. The conference featered over 150 speakers, sessions, tous, and over 1,000 attendees.
91.7 WEEM is the student-run radio station at Pendleton Heights High School. For over 40 years, the station has set a high standard for high school radio. Students gain experience in a variety of ways, including Air Personality, Newscasting, Sports Play-by-Play, Production, and more. Radio courses at Pendleton Heights see around 175 total student hours per year, which doesn’t include all of the extra hours at remote tents, play-by-play events, and WEEM’s “Last Splash” pool party at the end of each summer break.
